<div>UK Artist and painter Betty Norton, from Alfreton, Derbyshire, works in a variety of mediums, Acrylics, Watercolours, Oils, Gouache and Pastels and utilises modern technology to manipulating some of her images digitally.<br /> <br /> Betty regularly offers tuition in organised classes demonstrates her working techniques. Betty Norton gives Watercolour Classes and Workshops for Beginners and Improvers at Tansley and Leabrooks, near Alfreton, Derbyshire.<br /> <br /> Influences include the geometry of Piet Mondrian Vierra da Silva and Brigit Riley, the colours of Georges Seurat and the styles of Gerhard Richter and Chuck Close.<br /> <br /> Betty Norton has won many awards, and her work is in private collections worldwide. <br /> <br /> <br /> Just some exhibitions include; The Westminster Galleries London, Hobart House, London, The University of Derby, Southeast Derbyshire College of Art and Design, Illam Hall (National Trust), Wirksworth Art Trail, The Peacock Heritage Centre, Chesterfield, The Brew House Art Centre, Pear Tree Farm, Studio 61 at the Coach house, Lea ,Derwent Mills, Cromford, Hammersmith House, Hammersmith and The Ripley Tourist Board.<br /> <br /> Subject matter is diverse, including representational and abstract paintings, still life, portraits landscapes and animals.<br /> <br /> Earlier work has been based on a range of inspirations from maps and geography, to the glitzy glamorous world of Las Vegas, and more recently Betty tends to study the negative spaces in every day objects, producing some extremely exciting results; the geometric element in her work still surfaces from time to time.<br /> <br /> Betty Norton has been the Secretary of the Alfreton Society Of Painters for the past twenty years and is also the Secretary of the Morph Group of Contemporary Artists, a group which is comprised mainly of post graduate students of the University of Derby.<br /> <br /> Betty Norton was born in Tottenham, North London, but spent her childhood and adolescent years in Luton.<br /> <br /> During her early working years she was heavily involved in Luton’s famous millinery trade, which nurtured her love of colour and texture. This is apparent in her work to this day.<br /> <br /> Betty Norton has lived in Derbyshire for many years, one of her favourite inspirations being the local Peak District of this county, but whenever the opportunity arises she loves to paint in warmer climates. <br /> </div>
